A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued for social media influencer Sahil Adeem in a defamation case after he failed to attend court proceedings.
The warrant was issued by Karachi’s Judicial Magistrate (South), Sher Muhammad, following the submission of a final charge sheet by investigating officer Waqar Ahmed.
Adeem faces charges under multiple sections of Pakistan’s Penal Code, including Section 153 (promoting enmity between groups), Section 505(1)(c) (intent to incite), and Section 500 (defamation).
Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code (recording evidence in the absence of the accused) has also been applied.
The warrant originates from a complaint filed on July 12 by Advocate Abdul Fattah at the City Court Police Station.
The complaint alleges that Sahil Adeem made controversial comments in a video, where he mocked the Sindhi community and attempted to incite conflict between Sindhis and Punjabis.
Although Adeem secured a 15-day protective bail from the Islamabad High Court on July 15 with a surety bond of 20,000 PKR, he did not appear before the court in Karachi as required.
The controversy started when an old video of Adeem surfaced online, in which he made inflammatory statements about Sindhis.
In the video, he referenced the “Ghazwa-e-Hind” (a prophesied battle) and diverted the discussion toward the Sindhi community, making offensive comments.
He claimed that Sindhi families offer their daughters to feudal lords before marriage and suggested that their behavior was worse than that of Hindus, despite identifying as Muslims.
This video triggered widespread outrage, particularly from Sindhi users on social media, who demanded legal action against Adeem. As a result, a case was filed, and an investigation began.
The incident also drew political attention when PPP lawmaker Marvi Faseeh submitted a resolution in the Sindh Assembly condemning Adeem’s remarks.
The magistrate has now instructed the investigating officer to arrest Adeem and present him in court by September 24.
