Karachi: Following a fierce match against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s participation in the SAFF Under-17 Championship 2024 came to an end in the semifinals when they lost in a penalty shootout.
The game, which was played as part of a competition including seven South Asian countries, was played in Thimphu, Bhutan.
After defeating Pakistan 8–7 in the penalty shootout, Bangladesh advanced to the championship game. Muhammad Shahab Ahmed’s outstanding goal gave Pakistan the lead in the thirty-second minute.
Then, in the 62nd minute, Abdul Rahman made it 2-0 with a skillfully executed penalty kick. Bangladesh, however, struck back, tying the score at 2-2 in the 74th and 94th minutes. Pakistan missed a penalty kick with the score knotted at 7-7 in the shootout and also missed their 8th penalty, allowing Bangladesh to convert theirs and claim the win.
The final will be contested on Monday between defending champions India and Bangladesh, after India defeated Nepal in the other semifinal.
