Babar Azam resigns as White Ball Captain

Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has accepted the resignation of white ball captain Babar Azam.

The PCB confirmed that Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy of the Pakistan men’s white ball team on Tuesday evening and his resignation has been accepted.

According to the PCB, Babar’s decision reflects his desire to focus more on his batting after which the PCB selection committee will begin formulating a strategy for future white ball cricket including recommending a new captain.

The board stated that although the PCB had supported Babar Azam as the captain of the white ball team his decision to resign indicates a player’s desire to devote more attention to his performance.

This decision is a testament to his professional skills and commitment to Pakistan cricket. He believes that fully dedicating himself to his batting will enable him to play a more decisive role in the team’s success in the shorter formats.

The PCB further noted that it recognizes Babar’s contributions as a white ball captain his ability to prioritize the team’s needs and his unwavering commitment to Pakistan cricket.

The board will continue to support Babar acknowledging that he still has a lot to offer as a world class batter and a senior member of the team.

On the other hand Babar Azam stated that playing for Pakistan has always been the greatest honor for him and he has always prioritized the team’s success above all else.

Resigning from the captaincy will allow him to contribute even more as a player and he is fully committed to this path emphasizing that the team success is the most important thing.

Babar Azam mentioned that he has had the honor of leading Pakistan for five notable years and he has always tried to give his best as both a captain and a player.

At this stage he firmly believes that focusing on his batting can make a significant impact. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support from his teammates coaches and the PCB during his captaincy.

He added that while leading Pakistan has been a tremendous honor now is the right time for him to concentrate fully on his batting and the team’s goals supporting the new captain and emerging players as they prepare for an important season ahead including defending the ICC Champions Trophy on home soil next year.
