Windows 11 is going to receive its biggest update in two years, which will introduce several new features and improvements with the release of the 24H2 version. The previous 23H2 focused primarily on security, but the 24H2 update brings a whole lot of exciting new features, and for this reason, it will be available gradually to users running 22H2 or 23H2.
What’s new in Windows 11?
The 24H2 update has much to offer and, for example, provides a completely redesigned Energy-Saver mode in place of the old Battery Saver. Hardware is also enhanced with USB4 2.0 ports carrying up to 80 Gbps as well as WiFi 7. Another thing users should expect includes updated text labels for common actions like copy-paste in the right-click menu, along with new functionalities for the personalization of the Quick Settings panel.
This will also be followed by improvements to apps such as an improved Recall feature, an improved Windows search function, and a Super Resolution tool within the Photos app for enhancing old, blurry images. The Paint app will also be gaining new generative fill features to make it more capable.
However, these features will only be made available to program participants in Copilot+ who would come properly equipped with at least 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and a neural processing unit (NPU) that can handle 40 TOPS.
**Performance and Compatibility Improvements
Other improvements under the hood include UI and app updates. Microsoft will include improvements in the compiler kernel and scheduler. This will lead to overall performance improvements. Support for Prism, Microsoft’s new Arm-to-x86 app translation layer, will also receive better support.
As stable enough for everyday use since May, Microsoft confirms system requirements are unchanged with this update. This means PCs from 2018 and newer should be able to run 24H2 without issues. Older unsupported installs have stiffer requirements, however: the update will now only run on 64-bit PCs that support the SSE 4.2 instruction set, meaning older Intel Core 2 and AMD Sempron/Athon CPUs are effectively cut off from the update.
24H2 takes Windows 11 a notch higher in functionalities and new features for contemporary PCs.
