Amazon brings satellite internet to Pakistan

Amazon’s Project Kuiper plans to launch satellite internet in Pakistan by the end of 2026. The service will bring high-speed broadband using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.

The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication shared the update after a meeting with Amazon’s Kuiper team. Federal Minister Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja led the session in Islamabad.

Project Kuiper aims to provide fast internet in areas with weak or no coverage. The project will target remote and underserved regions across Pakistan.

The minister welcomed Amazon’s move. She said better internet access supports Pakistan’s digital future. She also noted that the project fits the goal of building a connected and inclusive Digital Pakistan.

Amazon will set up ground stations in the country. These include gateways and Points of Presence (PoPs). The team wants to make the service strong and reliable for local users.

Project Kuiper plans to use over 3,200 satellites. These will provide internet speeds up to 400 Mbps. The terminals will remain low-cost and user-friendly.

This step could change internet access in Pakistan. More people will go online.  Businesses will connect on large scale . More schools will access digital tools.

Officials believe the partnership will also boost the local tech sector. More jobs, better training, and stronger digital infrastructure will follow.

Amazon’s team showed interest in long-term investment. The company sees Pakistan as a key part of its global internet mission.

The Ministry promised full support. It will work with Amazon to meet deadlines and fix hurdles.

This partnership may help close Pakistan’s digital gap. More people will join the online world. More regions will link to the digital economy.

Work is already underway. Results will arrive in phases before full launch in 2026.
