Sohail Ashraf appointed new CDA chairman replaces Randhawa

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Lieutenant (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf as the new Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), replacing Mohammad Ali Randhawa.

Following the cabinet’s approval, the Establishment Division issued an official notification confirming his appointment under Section 6(2) of the Capital Development Authority Ordinance, 1960. The notification states that he will assume the position with immediate effect and continue until further orders.

Earlier, the federal government had removed Mohammad Ali Randhawa from his post. Sohail Ashraf was subsequently appointed as the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad. With the latest development, he will now hold both key positions simultaneously — Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and Chairman of the CDA.

Officials believe that placing both responsibilities under one individual will improve coordination between the federal government and the CDA. Sources within the government say the decision is aimed at ensuring smoother governance and faster decision-making in matters related to the capital’s development and administration.

The dual appointment is expected to streamline administrative processes and strengthen oversight of development projects in Islamabad. Authorities hope the move will lead to better planning and more effective implementation of policies concerning the city’s growth and infrastructure.
