Jawwad Ahmed Cheema appointed new CEO of PSO

Pakistan State Oil Company Limited has appointed Jawwad Ahmed Cheema as its new Chief Executive Officer for a three-year term starting from May 18, 2026.

The company shared the announcement in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, stating that the decision was approved by its Board of Management. Cheema will take over from interim CEO Abdus Sami.

Cheema brings more than 28 years of experience in the downstream energy sector. He has held senior leadership roles across Asia Pacific, Europe, and South Asia. His expertise includes retail fuels, lubricants, storage facilities, supply chain management, corporate strategy, and international operations.

A significant portion of his career was spent at Royal Dutch Shell, where he worked for 26 years in various senior positions in Pakistan, Indonesia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. He previously served as Managing Director and CEO of Shell Pakistan Limited, leading the company through major strategic and operational changes.

He also held key international roles at Shell, including Vice President of Strategy and Portfolio in The Hague and Vice President of Shell Business Operations in Singapore, where he managed global strategy and business transformation projects.

Before joining PSO, Cheema served as CEO of Karachi Hydrocarbon Terminal, which operates one of the country’s main petroleum import and distribution terminals at Port Qasim.
His appointment comes at a time when PSO is focusing on strengthening its operations and expanding its role in Pakistan’s energy sector.
