Cricket legend dismisses Babar-Virat comparisons as ‘pointless

Legendary Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas has expressed frustration over the comparisons between Babar Azam and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, calling them unnecessary and irrelevant.

Despite the frequent comparisons of Babar and Virat due to their technical abilities, Zaheer dismissed these parallels during a recent appearance on a sports talk show.

Speaking from the UAE, Zaheer emphasized the importance of current form, pointing out Babar’s recent struggles as a reason these comparisons don’t make sense.

“The comparisons don’t hold up. Virat Kohli is consistently scoring, while Babar Azam is currently underperforming. How can they be compared?” Abbas questioned.

He elaborated that consistent performance defines a great player, indirectly pointing to Virat’s continued dominance across formats.

Kohli has been in excellent form, recently leading India to their second T20 World Cup victory with a key half-century against South Africa.

In the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Virat also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the fastest player to reach 27,000 international runs.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam has faced mounting criticism following poor performances, particularly in Pakistan’s home Test series against Bangladesh.

His struggles during that series, where he scored just 64 runs in four innings, have raised concerns about his current form.

Due to his poor run, Babar dropped out of the top ten in the ICC Test Batting Rankings, adding further pressure to improve his performance.
