Hezbollah announced on Saturday that its leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, has been killed. This confirmation comes a day after the Israeli military said it had killed him in an airstrike in Beirut.

Nasrallah’s death is a critical blow to Hezbollah, which is under a rising wave of Israeli military attacks. It also presents a tremendous setback for Iran since Nasrallah occupied a very key position in the Tehran-backed regional “Axis of Resistance.”

The battle with Israel will continue in support of Gaza and Palestine and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people,” the statement released by Hezbollah assured. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has not said anything about the circumstances of the death of Nasrallah.

In a “targeted strike” which killed another major Hezbollah leader, Ali Karaki, along with a number of other commanders, Nasrallah was said to have been killed by the Israeli military in a strike on Friday that targeted the underground headquarters of the militant group beneath a residential building in Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah-controlled area in southern Beirut.

It was said that the operation took place at a time when Hezbollah’s top leaders were present and fully engaged in terrorist operations against Israel.

Eyewitness reports say the airstrikes rendered parts of Dahiyeh largely in ruins, with a cratering at least 20 meters deep. Sat-major airstrikes targeting Saturday continued on Dahiyeh and other cities across Lebanon, causing colossal explosions that lit up the sky and came in during the morning of Sunday. Thrcok smoke covered the skies above Beirut as people who fled to downtown areas and other sections of the city, managing to escape some of the destroyed areas of Dahiyeh.
