There are increasing allegations in the media that the calls to postpone this month’s scheduled India-Bangladesh cricket matches are intensifying after the government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid was overthrown.
In a letter to the BCCI, the right-wing organisation Janajagriti Samithi demanded that the matches be called off due to the violence that Hindus are still facing in Bangladesh. Mahasabha, another Hindu group, had already vowed to stage a protest outside the stadium in the event that the Bangladeshi team showed up.
Tomorrow in Chennai, India and Bangladesh will play their first Test match. Two test matches and three Twenty20 matches are part of the trip, which runs until October 12.
The games will be played in Kanpur, Chennai,Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad, and there are concerns about potential protests at several venues.
