Islamabad airport crisis

Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, holds great significance as the country’s administrative and political hub. Pakistan has approximately 69 airports, both large and small, spread across various cities. Major cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi have large international airports, while smaller cities like Quetta, Sialkot, and Faisalabad also have airports that cater to both domestic and international flights.

The largest airport in Pakistan is Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, as Karachi is the largest city in the country. However, despite having several international airports, the overall condition of Pakistan’s airports is quite concerning. They are underdeveloped compared to airports in other countries, and their infrastructure is deteriorating. This is a matter of great concern.

One of the most pressing issues is the condition of Islamabad International Airport. Previously, the Islamabad airport was located in Rawalpindi, but a new international airport was constructed a few years ago. Unfortunately, instead of being a symbol of progress, the airport has faced severe infrastructural challenges. Delays in flights have become a common occurrence, and recent reports indicate that the airport experienced severe flooding due to excessive rainfall. Water leakage from the airport roof has also been reported, which is both alarming and unacceptable. Such incidents reflect negligence and mismanagement.

As the capital’s primary airport, Islamabad International Airport should meet international standards to provide a good first impression to tourists and travelers. Although there have been announcements regarding improvement plans, the existing issues persist. Urgent measures are required to upgrade and maintain the airport properly.

I urge the government to take immediate steps to improve the conditions of Islamabad International Airport. A well-maintained and world-class airport is essential for our country’s image and tourism industry. We must not allow it to deteriorate further. The next time I travel abroad from Islamabad International Airport, I hope to see significant improvements so that both citizens and visitors can have a comfortable and pleasant experience.
