Lewandowski and Raphinha star as Barcelona thrash Villarreal

Barcelona continued their strong La Liga form with a decisive 5-1 win over Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha each scored twice, leading the team to their sixth straight league victory.

The match’s excitement was tempered by a serious knee injury to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who had to be carried off after a fall while trying to catch a corner.

Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a precise finish, thanks to a smart assist from Pablo Torre. He added a second goal just before half-time, quickly converting a rebound after Villarreal’s goalkeeper, Diego Conde, saved a header from Eric Garcia.

Villarreal fought back with a goal from Ayoze Perez just before the break, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, two of their goals were disallowed, including a near miss from Nicolas Pepe.

In the second half, Barcelona took charge again, with Torre scoring a deflected shot to widen their lead.

Although Lewandowski missed a penalty by hitting the post, Raphinha sealed the victory with two late goals, highlighting Barcelona’s attacking strength.

This win allowed Barcelona to maintain a four-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who defeated Espanyol 4-1 on Saturday.

Lewandowski remarked on the significance of the victory, saying, “It’s very important for us that we played a game away from home, we scored five goals, and in the end we have three points.”

Despite the impressive performance, ter Stegen’s potential injury could raise concerns for Barcelona’s title chase.
