The Punjab government has decided to digitize all toll plazas across the province. The move aims to make toll collection more transparent, efficient, and convenient for the public.

The decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The meeting approved the complete replacement of the manual paper slip system with a fully digital model.

Under the new plan, a “One App, One System” framework will be launched at 38 toll plazas across Punjab. The model will be similar to the digital toll system currently in use on national motorways.

Officials told the meeting that this system will not only ensure transparency but also help reduce traffic congestion and save time for travelers. It will allow toll payments through electronic methods, ending the need for cash transactions.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the project is part of the government’s broader strategy to digitize public services. She noted that technology-based solutions will help curb corruption and improve accountability in revenue collection.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing and upcoming development projects in transport, infrastructure, and urban beautification. The chief minister approved five major road projects to be developed under public-private partnerships. She said this approach will reduce costs and accelerate completion by engaging private companies along with government departments.

Officials reported that Punjab has already saved Rs 40 billion through e-tendering, a sign of improved transparency and efficiency in project procurement.

Maryam Nawaz also directed that solar-powered streetlights be installed along all newly constructed roads to promote clean energy and reduce electricity costs.

The meeting approved several projects to enhance Lahore’s appearance. These include the installation of a fountain and a miniature train for children at the park in front of the railway station. New roads and footpaths will also be built within a three-kilometer radius of the station to improve access and city aesthetics.

Authorities briefed the chief minister that 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged by recent floods have been fully restored. Rehabilitation projects in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal have also been completed.

The provincial government plans to roll out the digital toll system in stages. Once implemented, the system will eliminate the need for manual receipts and bring all toll operations under a unified electronic network.
