PTI’s overseas social media controller, Jibran Ilyas, has begun questioning party leaders. According to party sources, Jibran Ilyas has been given this authority by the PTI founder.
Evidence of him holding party leaders accountable has started to surface through various sources.
Reports confirm that Jibran Ilyas has created a WhatsApp group called “Jibran and PTI Top Leadership,” which includes members such as Ali Hasnain Malik, Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Rauf Hassan, Salman Raza, and other leaders.
On June 3, Jibran Ilyas sent instructions in the WhatsApp group in light of the FIA’s investigations into party leaders, saying, “If you have any questions related to the investigations, feel free to ask here. I will happily respond, but do not make any assumptions. For example, I do not handle the PTI founder’s account, and social media is not being operated from abroad. We have a significant presence nationwide, but it’s not a good idea to disclose the locations of workers.”
Regarding a controversial video in the FIA’s cybercrime case, Barrister Gohar, PTI’s chairman, was interrogated for 2 hours, while Secretary of Information Rauf Hassan was questioned for 4 hours.
On June 5, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan distanced himself from the controversial video related to the 1971 war that was released through the party’s social media account.
In his statement to the FIA, Barrister Gohar expressed his disagreement with the idea of uploading the video and confirmed that, “Jibran Ilyas and Azhar Mashwani are operating social media accounts from abroad.”
Jibran Ilyas shared screenshots from a TV channel with Barrister Gohar on June 5, showing Gohar’s statement where he mentioned that Jibran Ilyas and Azhar Mashwani run social media from abroad.
Barrister Gohar responded to Jibran Ilyas, clarifying, “Jibran, I spoke to you for nearly thirty minutes, explained everything, and also sent you screenshots.”
When Jibran Ilyas sent the screenshot and sought clarification, Barrister Gohar responded, “Jibran, I am telling you, I did not mention anyone’s name as the handler of the post, and frankly, I do not know.”
Barrister Gohar added, “I told you that if they get my statement (where I could mention your name), then ask me. Otherwise, please don’t involve me in anything.”
Barrister Gohar further provided evidence, stating, “Some sources say I mentioned your name, and others say Rauf mentioned it. Please understand this issue. I called you and spoke with you for 30 minutes to answer any questions. If you have further questions, feel free to call again.”
In response, Jibran Ilyas messaged Barrister Gohar, “Then openly deny it.”
Jibran Ilyas also commented on the screenshot he shared, stating, “By the way, the text is not mine. Someone wrote these Urdu words and sent them to me, and I forwarded them. I trust you, but you should openly deny it.”
Barrister Gohar told Jibran Ilyas, “I had already told you that if anything happens from the FIA’s side, I will deny it. When I came out, I said the matter is under investigation, and the High Court has directed us to appear, so I do not want to go into details about the responses.”
Political analysts believe that the WhatsApp conversation proves PTI is fully involved in the viral spread of the 1971 video. The internal rift between Jibran Ilyas and other party leaders is growing.
The WhatsApp messages between Jibran Ilyas and Barrister Gohar Khan suggest that PTI leaders hold little authority in front of Jibran. Barrister Gohar’s repeated clarifications demonstrate Jibran Ilyas’s strong grip over the party.
The exchange also highlights that Jibran Ilyas gives directions to PTI’s chairman. Jibran Ilyas serves as the spokesperson for the PTI founder and acts directly on his orders.
Concrete evidence confirms that PTI’s leadership within the country knows that Jibran Ilyas manages the official social media account.
