Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing an end to his nine-year spell at the Premier League club, the side confirmed on Thursday.
The 32-year-old left-back has made 373 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Hull City in 2017, becoming a key figure in the club’s return to domestic and European dominance under former manager Jürgen Klopp.
During his time at Anfield, Robertson won two Premier League titles and the Champions League, along with the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. He also established himself as one of the most creative defenders in Premier League history, ranking among the top assist providers in his position.
However, his role has diminished this season following increased competition in the squad, and his contract, which expires at the end of the campaign, will not be renewed.
His departure comes shortly after fellow Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah also confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, marking a major transition period for the Premier League side.
Robertson reflected on his time at Liverpool, saying he had given his “heart and soul” to the club and would carry lifelong memories of his nine years at Anfield. He said the club and its supporters would always hold a special place in his life.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are enduring a difficult season under manager Arne Slot, with the team currently sitting fifth in the Premier League after a series of disappointing results. The club has also suffered early exits from domestic and European competitions.
The season has also been marked by tragedy, following the death of forward Diogo Jota in a car accident in July, a loss that deeply affected members of the squad.
Robertson joined Liverpool from relegated Hull City for £8 million and quickly became a fan favourite due to his energy, consistency and leadership on the pitch. His rise under Klopp’s system is widely regarded as one of the standout success stories of that era.
Despite the disappointment of his departure, Robertson said he remains focused on finishing the season strongly and helping the team achieve positive results in their remaining matches.
