Urmila Matondkar files for divorce from husband Mohsin Akhtar Mir

Bollywood actress and politician Urmila Matondkar has reportedly decided to end her eight-year marriage to Kashmiri businessman Mohsin Akhtar Mir.

According to Indian media sources, Urmila has initiated divorce proceedings, although the specific reasons for the separation have not been made public. This decision appears to be unilateral, taken solely by Urmila.

Speculation about their split has grown, especially after Urmila unfollowed Mohsin on social media, while he continues to follow her on Instagram.

Reports suggest that Urmila carefully considered her choice, and there are rumors that she might return to acting following the divorce.

Urmila has established herself as a prominent figure in Bollywood, having starred in various Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Marathi films. She began her career as a child artist in 1977 with BR Chopra’s “Karm” and rose to fame with the classic “Masoom” in 1983.

Her well-known films include Judaai, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Khoobsurat, Bhoot, and Jungle. Her last film appearance was in the 2018 movie Blackmail, where she appeared in the song “Bewafa Beauty.”

Urmila and Mohsin first met through their mutual friend, renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra, before tying the knot in 2016.

Their wedding was a private affair held at Urmila’s residence in Mumbai, attended only by close family and friends.

Despite their ten-year age difference Mohsin being younger the couple shared a strong bond that caught the attention of the media.

Mohsin relocated to Mumbai from Kashmir with hopes of making it in Bollywood but eventually shifted his focus to business.

Their marriage was particularly noteworthy as an example of an interfaith union, celebrated with both Hindu rituals and a nikah.

Now, after eight years together, their relationship seems to be concluding. Nonetheless, Urmila is focused on her career and future opportunities, potentially including a return to the film industry.
