US Ambassador meets Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra

United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Bloom, visited the residence of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Jati Umra. The PML-N issued a statement confirming the meeting and mentioned that the US ambassador and Nawaz Sharif discussed Pakistan’s political and economic situation.

The meeting, also attended by PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz, focused on sustaining bilateral ties and cooperation on various mutual interests.

The discussions stressed on the need for a continued and strengthened partnership between the two nations, aiming for tangible and fruitful results. A range of topics, including trade, economy, climate change, security, and regional stability and development, were on the agenda during the meeting.

Nawaz Sharif, a three-time prime minister, recalled past interactions with various US leaders, highlighting the recognition of the significance of Pakistan and the United States as two separate independent and sovereign nations.

He shared insights into the prevailing economic and political situation in Pakistan, particularly focusing on the PML-N’s preparations for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8. Nawaz expressed confidence that the people of Pakistan would again trust the PML-N to address the country’s current challenges.

During the meeting, Nawaz also raised concerns about the plight of Palestinians facing Israeli bombing and siege, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and the provision of medical and humanitarian assistance to millions of affected people.

Ambassador Blome shared US priorities and expressed gratitude for the candid and open discussion on various issues. This visit follows a recent meeting with United Kingdom High Commissioner Jane Marriot, where Nawaz expressed concern about a declining trend in Britain’s Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) for Pakistan.

He urged the British Government to play a positive role in ensuring an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, citing the significant loss of Palestinian lives due to Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on homes, schools, and hospitals.
