KARACHI: WhatsApp was partially down in Karachi on Saturday, mostly in the mode of sending any media file while accessing it via internet or mobile data. Reports started to come in around 10:00 AM, according to the website Downdetector, which tracks outages.
Disruptions to the service meant that all essential communications became quite important, not to mention that most customers could no longer upload their media files using mobile data. However, voice messages and video files could be sent and viewed using Wi-Fi.
Pakistan Today has sent a question regarding this interruption to Fahd Haroon, who is Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Digital Media, but no answer could be received at the time of this report.
This outage coincided with a planned PTI demonstration in Rawalpindi. The incident feeds into already existing fears that internet services in Pakistan may not be as stable as they ought to be, after the country had gone through several massive outages and even witnessed an extended ban on X, formerly Twitter. Users experienced similar issues on WhatsApp last week.
