Former Bangladesh cricket captain Musharfi Mortaza implicated in new case

In addition to six other people, former lawmaker and Bangladesh cricket captain Musharfi Mortaza is also involved in another court action.

According to reports, he is accused of forcing the Sylhet Strikers, a team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), to transfer team shares, and of engaging in illegal extortion.

Sarwar Ghulam Chowdhury, a US-based former chairman of the Sylhet Strikers, filed the initial lawsuit.

According to the police, no one has been taken into custody as of yet, and an investigation is still in progress.

Apart from this particular case, there have been accusations against Musharfi Mortaza regarding assaults on students that occurred during recent demonstrations against the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He is among the ninety people accused in relation to these incidents of violence directed at protesting students.

Rahim entered politics after retiring from cricket in 2018 and joined Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Awami League party. He eventually won election as a member of parliament for the Narail-2 constituency.

It was recently revealed that, having been chosen to play for the Detroit Falcons in the US Masters T10 League, he will be returning to the cricket field.

In addition, once former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the nation, a murder prosecution was brought in Dhaka against former Awami League members, including Shakib Al Hasan.
