He initially retired from ODIs during the 2022 series against South Africa but returned to play in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
As the defending champions, England had a lackluster World Cup campaign, finishing seventh with just six points from nine games.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reinstated Stokes from retirement, where he excelled, accumulating 304 runs in six matches at an average exceeding 50.
He even recorded a century during the World Cup, but he hasn’t played an ODI since his last game against Pakistan.
In a recent Sky Sports interview, Stokes commended the new talent emerging in England’s white-ball setup during the ODI series against Australia.
He specifically mentioned Jacob Bethell as a player to watch, predicting he could become a cricket superstar.
Stokes indicated his openness to rejoining the white-ball teams, stating he would eagerly accept an invitation to play again.
He also expressed contentment in supporting other players from the sidelines if he isn’t called back, enjoying their performances.
At present, Stokes is dealing with a hamstring injury incurred during The Hundred 2024 and is set to have a scan next week.
