Breaking: Iran launches missile attack on Israel

Israel’s military announced on Tuesday that it has come under missile attack from Iran.

This development followed reports from U.S. officials indicating that intelligence had detected Iran’s imminent plans to launch a ballistic missile strike against Israel, in response to Israel’s recent ground operations in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah forces.

A senior White House official warned that any direct aggression by Iran toward Israel would have severe repercussions for Tehran. “We are actively supporting Israel’s defensive preparations to protect against this attack,” the official stated.

Defense Department sources suggested that Iran is expected to target Israeli military and government installations rather than civilian areas.

President Joe Biden convened a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and national security advisors to discuss the anticipated threat, according to the White House. Deputy Press Secretary Emilie Simons shared on social media platform X that they reviewed U.S. efforts to assist Israel in defending against attacks and ensuring the safety of U.S. personnel.

In response to the escalating situation, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem directed all American government employees and their families in Israel to “shelter in place until further notice.” The embassy also advised U.S. citizens to exercise heightened caution and enhance personal security measures due to the complex and rapidly changing security environment.

Meanwhile, Israeli ground forces have advanced into southern Lebanon in an operation against Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group. An Israeli official told NBC News that a few hundred Israeli soldiers have crossed into Lebanese territory.
