Lebanon to deploy army to southern regions following deadly Israeli strikes

Caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Monday that his administration still respects an immediate cease-fire that Lebanon accepted a week ago but that Israel has not “implemented one word of it.”.

Israeli forces have raided several places, among them al-Abbassieh, Harouf, and Bedias. Reports point out that a full-scale conflict is escalating between Israel and Hezbollah. Indications pointed out such operations might be starting off as precursors to a full-scale ground offensive, although the U.S is urging Israel to delay any concrete actions.

The humanitarian crisis is worsening as more than 100,000 people, both Lebanese and Syrian nationals, reportedly fled to Syria since the violence began. In Lebanon alone, over 700 people have been killed in recent Israeli bombardments, and two days ago, 14 paramedics lost their lives.

On the urgent humanitarian needs, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi said, “Many, such as Syrian Mohammed Saleh, know this anguish too well. “We were compelled to leave Syria and come to Lebanon. Now we are returning to Syria. The Israelis bombed and destroyed our second home,” he said in sorrow.

The situation in Lebanon remains critical as the situation worsens and thousands are left displaced with the humanitarian disaster unraveling.
