Pooran breaks Rizwan’s T20 World record

West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has made history in T20 cricket, setting a new record for the most runs scored in a single calendar year, surpassing Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan’s 2021 mark of 2,036 runs.

Representing Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, Pooran needed just five runs to break the record, achieving the milestone in the first over of their match against Barbados Royals.

Pooran now boasts an impressive 2,059 runs from 65 innings this year, with a striking rate of 160.63, further establishing his dominance in the T20 format.

In addition to breaking the runs record, Pooran also became the first player to hit over 150 sixes in a calendar year, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record.

Pooran’s exceptional form continues in CPL 2024, where he has amassed 312 runs from nine innings, maintaining an outstanding strike rate of 175.28.

His recent contribution helped secure a 30-run win for Trinbago Knight Riders against Barbados Royals, further emphasizing his consistent match-winning performances.

South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks trails Pooran with 1,555 runs this year, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam ranks third with 1,480 runs in the same period.

Pooran’s remarkable consistency and power have cemented his status as one of the top T20 players in the world this year, showcasing his immense talent.
