Zong expands footprints in Gilgit Baltistan with 59 4G sites launch

The leading telecommunication and digital services provider in Pakistan, Zong, has launched its service formally in Gilgit Baltistan, thereby portraying a significant leap for the region in terms of digital development. In commemoration of this historic moment, the launch ceremony at the Serena Hotel, Gilgit, on 27th September, was attended by Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Minister of Law and Tourism for Gilgit Baltistan as chief guest.

Zong has commercially started 59 new sites of 4G in the region, and they have planned to expand them next year. This development will help local communities improve their connectivity, further tourism development, and contribute to the socio-economic growth of Gilgit Baltistan. Among the distinguished guests were Miss Suraya Zaman, IT advisor to the Gilgit Baltistan government, Mr. Gul Abid Wazir and Mr. Ehsan ul Haq from PTA Gilgit, Lt. Col. Muhammad Ali Ahmed from the Special Communication Organization (SCO), and Riaz Ahmad, Secretary of IT for Gilgit Baltistan, who showed the public-private partnership in forwarding the digital infrastructure of the region.

In his comments, Zong Executive Director of Sales & Distribution Khawaja Shehzad Ullah said, “We are excited to bring high-speed internet services of Zong 4G to Gilgit Baltistan. The launch reflects the company’s commitment towards bridging Pakistan’s digital divide and empowering local communities for supporting economic growth through its technology.”

The expansion groups were supplemented by Zong CEO Mr. Huo Junli, who said, “By bringing 4G services to Gilgit Baltistan, Zong is addressing connectivity gaps while fast-tracking Pakistan’s journey toward digital transformation. This is a step that consolidates our role in supporting the Belt and Road Initiative through seamless communication, which forms the bases of economic growth and cross-border trade. We take pride in making that future for both Pakistan and the greater region even more connected.”

Mr. Huo thanked the strategic partner of Zong in this regard, the Special Communications Organization (SCO), and Pakistan’s Telecommunications Authority (PTA) for giving the company a single window to roll out such advanced networks.
